My Mockup Backpack (Teen Vogue X Parsons)

Tuesday, November 24, 2015

Hello Everyone,
Today I have for you my mockup backpack that was solely made up of muslin fabric and basic stitch line in the sewing machine. For my project I decided that my signature bag or backpack was one that fairly resembled an old school classic leather backpack with an overlay used as a simple way to open the backpack but at the same time you would have a string to secure it safely. I took about about 2 hours and 30 minutes to fully complete this, and all that was used to make it was 1 yard of muslin fabric at $3.67 per yard. With minor additions of two buttons for the front at about .20 cents for both and loose brown string to tie at the front which was .70 cents per feet.

The inspiration that drew me to make this type of backpack was my love for simple and classic backpacks, I love the way you open it and how it fits you as you wear it, and for me a bag, backpack or purse can sure turn up a knotch when it comes to being the staple piece of your outfit. So you can never go wrong with a backpack.

This is my Production Cost Report

I got few feedback from friends and family on what the price ended up being and it was about 50% that agreed with the price and thought it was reasonable, while on the other hand the other 50% disagreed with the price. A few suggestions were that the most they would be willing to pay was $40-$45 for the backpack. But when I also explained that this was a mockup and the real material/fabric I was intended to use was Faux Leather, they had second thoughts and thought that in that case it would be reasonable if not just right for that. All in all, I appreciated their honest feedback. And day by day I can learn to fix up certain methods in making the backpack to improve.
